지난 2017년 11월에 제주에서 국제해양문화위원회를 발족하였습니다. 창립총회에서 매년 정례적인 모임을 가질 것을 결의하였고, 국제 영문학술지를 창간하기로 합의하였습니다. 이번 2018년 7월 본인이 대한민국 국립해양박물관장으로 부임하게 되면서 여러 여건이 변화하였습니다. 박물관은 한국 제1의 해양도시 부산에 자리하고 있습니다. 해양의 제 분야(문화/과학/산업/기술)가 박물관이 자리한 이곳 해양 클러스터의 용·복합단지에서 더불어 약진하고 있습니다. 제5차 해양문화 국제 컨퍼런스는 부산에서 개최됩니다. 그뿐 아니라 국제적으로 약속했던 국제 영문학술지를 창간하여 해양문화의 글로벌 주도권에서 아시아퍼시픽의 역할을 강화하고자 합니다. 필요시 아시아 각국을 순화하면서 본 대회가 성장해 나가길 희망합니다. 부산에서 여러분을 열렬히 환영합니다. 국립해양박물관장, IOCC 한국대표 주강현.

IOCC was founded in November, 2017, on Jeju Island. We resolved a vote of holding annual meetings and publishing the first edition of an international English academic journal. Enviroment around IOCC ha been changed since I was appointed to the post of the chief director of Korea National Maritime Museum. KNMM is situated in Busan which is the best maritime city in Korea, Various aspects of ocean -culture, science, industry and technology- are integrated and connected, making rapid strides here at the complex of fusion and convergence of maritime cluster. We will hold the 5th international conference on Ocean & culture in Busan. To strengthen the initiative of Asia Pacific in maritime study, we will also publish the very first issue of the international academic journal in English. If necessary, we will hold the conference in other countries in Asia with the hope for the advancement of the conference. It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to Busna. JOO, Kang Hyun.
