The modern isheries Act is based on the Daehanjeguk Fisheries Act enacted in 1908.

However, that Act had been enacted to allow the Japanese fishingindustry to exploit Joseon fisheries.

After liberation, the Korean government newly promulgated the Act in 1953 to protect coastal fisheries.

In this Act, the scope of the regulations was expanded to general fisheries.

The regulations enabled maintenance of fisheries oder and protection of fishey resources through fishing license and permit systems.
