The Agreement on fishery business between Korea and Japan (the Korea - Japan Fishery Agreement) was validated on Dec. 18, 1965
by signing on the agreement in Tokyo on Jun. 22, 1965. In 1995, Japan unilaterally declared of its abolition but new agreement was consummated in 1998.
With the Korea - Japan Fishery Agreement placed in effectuation, the 'joint regulatory zone' was formulated up to 46 nautical miles outside of the exclusive zone
(water territory for fishery business right up to the 12 nautical miles from the coast in its adjacent country) that fishery business activities for fishermen in Korea and Japan were available.
For the fishery business activities in the joint regulatory zone, fishermen have to hold the fishing inspection and attach the fishing boat mark
and this is purported to restrict the fishery business activities through the stipulation.
